two sort of related teaching thoughts I’ve been having as we barrel towards the end of the school year:

1) an aspect of the job I feel I’m just growing into—well, not an aspect, really. More of a central tenet—is being able to see and remember that I teach KIDS. And that is so important to remember in all cases but especially with my high schoolers. They are so young and more than that so much has not happened to them yet. There is so much they don’t know. And the more I see it the more I can be compassionate and yet also removed? Distanced? Not under the illusion that I’m addressing people of equal maturity or experience to me—or even close—and so being at all times mindful of the incompleteness of pretty much everything about them and thus being gentle with them. And also at the same time remembering and rejoicing in their humanity and all their glorious funny raw potential. It’s amazingly hard to do, harder than I thought. But I do think I CAN do it. And it gets a little easier with age.

2) It is shocking how many teachers don’t see kids that way and are uninterested in trying. It’s almost an epidemic the way that teachers swing between appreciating kids as if they were other adults—gassing them up, frankly LYING about their depth or intelligence in ways that shock me on the daily (when people call a kid mature and act like that is a literal statement and don’t contextualize it, I have to laugh, literally none of them ARE mature, they’re all raw; also the smartest of them aren’t deep. They CAN’t be, they’re KIDS)—or on the other hand being disgusted with their immaturity as if, again, they’re dealing with adults. And expressing their scorn and disappointment as if some of that behavior isn’t par for the course. There’s a cruelty in either extreme; there’s a lack of common sense; there’s a rampant sentimentalism. And it makes me almost sick to my stomach sometimes.

Kabru drives like an old lady because he learned from an old lady (Milsiril) and also he has Anxiety and also elves drive like shit this is a common well-known fact in dunmeshi modern au land. They didn't like horses and they don't like cars and if it was up to them everyone would just teleport like the gods CLEARLY intended. And its one thing Kabru has retained from his elven education.

His car is also an old shitty tiny matchbox, likely an hand-me-down from a dead member of the canaries. Its also FILTHY. Kabru has literally pretended to not have a car rather than taking people on it just so he wouldn't have to clean it.

Anyway do yall remember that video of that guy that starts all filled with road rage and makes a character for this driver who like was driving too slow I think? And then by the time he got to the end of the tirade he was like wait I like this guy (the character he made up) I don't want to be angry at this guy. That's 99% of what driving with Kabru is. He will start to go into road rage mode but by the end he will have weaved a complex narrative for this random dude who cut him off and he will end up being like sympathetic with him. It's fascinating. It's the only thing that makes travelling in his shitty ass filthy car in which the a/c smells like cat pee worth it.

After four days of intense work, I finished the Wendy and Tinkerbell dresses! The girls were absolutely thrilled with them and their dresses were a hit with the other theater goers. In true hype-woman fashion, whenever Little Purple received a compliment on her dress she replied, "thank you! My mom made it!"

i'm not saying that I can't see why people feel that buck is kind of the deancoded half of the buddie whole (or saying that everything has to relate back to dean supernatural, for that matter) -- buck 1.0 especially is the womanizer with a smile for everyone and abandonment issues behind the curtain, definitely reminescent of early-seasons dean in both looks and attitude!

but it's fascinating to me that i've never seen anyone point out how many traits and patterns EDDIE shares with thee dean winchester, especially post-s3 and then post-kripke dean, so much so that he often strikes me as more "deancoded" than buck if you look at the general morphology of the character.

eddie "repression is my passion" diaz is right there having responsibilities put on his shoulders too young, riddled with guilt, putting his (misguided notions of his) son's happiness before his own to the point of gratuitous suffering/forms of martyrdom, trying to adhere to this ideal of the heteronormative nuclear family to the point of toxicity (literally chasing after a Lisa Braeden-style normalcy, but instead playing 4D chess with the concept of marrying a Good Christian Girl), shoving down everything he feels to the point of not seeing the full scope of his own emotions until they blow up into self-destructive behaviors (see his little fight club digression for one) and explosive episodes. not only hating his dad for asking him to be "the man of the family" as a kid and for all time moving forward, but doing so with an intimate kind of hurt; not wanting to turn into him but arguably not free from his logic either.

carrying a rage he doesn't fully understand.

they even share a prolonged, defining way of being stuck in a past that doesn't exist: dean in the romanticized version of his family of origin, eddie in the romanticized version of the family he made with shannon.

(and on the other hand, eddie's known to get unexpectedly goofy and youthful when all the trauma isn't in the way, which also applies to later-seasons dean!)
